“Going Green” with your company is just as important as going green in your personal life. This is why Green IT Is Good. Green IT (Information Technology) helps companies to save the environment and cut IT costs.
Here are three ways to help your company get on the Green IT path.
1. Recycling old (legacy) IT equipment- like workstations, monitors, servers and printers. Business either have an office or cubicle that is full of these items, taking up space and collecting dust or are throwing them into the trash. According to the Electronics TakeBack Coalition
“In 2008 3.16 million tons of e-waste was created, only 13.6% was recycled and the rest was trashed-in landfills or incinerators”.
“13.6% really, that’s it?” I have to ask myself! This staggering statistic is what led my company, Sun Digital, Inc. into developing Green IT solutions and offering electronics recycling as a service to our clients in the Ocala, Gainesville and Central Florida area.
2. The virtualization of server networks and desktops allow companies to substantially reduce energy consumption and IT cost. If your company needs to update any IT infrastructure, virtualization should be at the top of mind.
3. Outsourcing your IT support or moving your internal data center off-site, will not only cut your on-site energy computation and cost, but also gas consumption and pollution.
In future blog posts, we will explore the all Green IT options for Electronics Recycling, Virtualization and IT Outsourcing. In the meantime, please do your part in keeping Florida green.
